Our Expertise in Welding

Thermal Spray

Enhancing Performance and Durability

What is Thermal Spray?

Thermal spraying is a versatile and widely used process in which molten, semi-molten, or solid particles are deposited onto a substrate to form a durable coating. This process involves heating a feedstock material (often in powder, wire, or rod form) and propelling it onto the surface of a component using high-velocity gases. The particles then solidify upon impact, forming a strong bond with the substrate, creating a coating that enhances surface properties like wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and thermal protection.

This coating technique is used across a broad spectrum of industries, including aerospace, automotive, energy, marine, and manufacturing, to improve the lifespan, performance, and functionality of critical components.

Types of Thermal Spray Coatings

Ceramic Coatings

Ceramic coatings offer excellent thermal insulation properties, making them ideal for high-temperature applications. These coatings are commonly used in environments where heat resistance and insulation are critical, such as in furnace components, engine parts, and turbine blades..

Carbide Coatings

Carbide coatings are known for their superior wear and abrasion resistance. These coatings are created by applying particles of carbide materials such as tungsten carbide or chrome carbide to a surface, forming a hard, durable coating. Carbides are typically used in combination with metals (cermet’s) to offer both high hardness and toughness.

HVOF Coatings

HVOF is one of the most advanced thermal spray techniques, known for its ability to produce dense, high-quality coatings. The process involves spraying heated material at a high velocity using an oxygen-fuel mixture. HVOF coatings are ideal for applications requiring extremely high wear resistance and minimal porosity..

Polymer Coatings

Polymer coatings are applied to protect against chemical corrosion, moisture, and wear. These coatings are especially valuable for applications where flexibility, impact resistance, and chemical resistance are required. Polymer coatings, including materials like PEEK (Polyetheretherketone), are also ideal for low-friction applications.

Chrome Plating Replacement

Chrome plating is commonly used to improve the wear resistance, appearance, and corrosion resistance of metal parts. However, in many applications, it can be costly and environmentally challenging to apply. Thermal spray coatings are an excellent alternative, offering comparable or superior protection to traditional chrome plating without the associated environmental concerns.

Vessel Lining Applications

Vessel lining involves the application of protective coatings to the inner surfaces of vessels, tanks, reactors, and pipelines. These coatings are crucial for preventing corrosion, chemical attack, and wear from the substances the vessel will contain. Thermal spray coatings provide an effective solution for ensuring the long-term durability and performance of these components.

Welding /Cladding

Welding /cladding are critical processes used in many industries to improve the strength, durability, and resistance of components. Cladding, in particular, involves the deposition of a layer of material onto the surface of a substrate to enhance its properties, such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, or heat resistance. Our advanced welding and cladding services offer tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of our clients across various industries

Principles of welding

  • Heat Generation via Electrical Current

  • Melting of Parent Metal and Filler Material

  • Formation of a Stable Weld Pool

  • Control of Heat Input for Proper Penetration

  • Prevention of Contamination through Shielding

  • Solidification and Bond Formation

Types of Welding /Cladding

MIG Welding

MIG welding, also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), is a widely used welding technique in which a continuous wire electrode is fed through a welding gun, creating an arc between the wire and the base material. The process is shielded by an inert gas (usually argon or a gas mixture) that protects the weld pool from contamination, ensuring a clean and strong bond.

TIG Welding

TIG welding, or Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to create the arc. An inert gas, usually argon, is used to shield the weld area from contamination. TIG welding is known for producing clean, precise, and high-quality welds, especially on thin materials.

Plasma Welding

Plasma welding is an advanced form of arc welding where a plasma jet is used to create a high-energy arc. The process involves ionizing a gas (often argon) to create a plasma, which generates intense heat. Plasma welding offers high precision and is especially effective for welding thin materials and hard-to-weld metals..

Laser Cladding

Laser cladding (also known as laser metal deposition or LMD) is an advanced technique where a laser beam is used to melt a feed-stock material, which is then deposited onto a substrate to form a coating. Laser cladding creates a high-quality, uniform coating with minimal heat input, which helps maintain the integrity of the base material.
